• Merv is a former Royal Marine Commando who served for 30 years earning promotion to a full commission and attaining the rank of Captain. He worked in several specialist sections, some lesser known and sensitive attachments through to a variety of active squadrons. He commanded a team within the SBS (Special Boat Service) trialling diving rigs, ordinance, boats, submersible tugs and weapons.

• Previously a member of a Search & Rescue team since 2005, Merv took part in a deployment to Pakistan after a severe earthquake in 2005 and again in 2007 as a Civil Defence instructor. He was also a member of a six person medical/rescue team deployed to Haiti in 2010.

• Merv has completed a number of training programmes including: Swift Water Rescue Technician (SRT), Urban Search & Rescue (USAR), High Angle Rope Rescue and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) at Birmingham University. He has also attended the RONIN, Remote Medic course in South Africa and has undertaken, and successfully completed, a Rescue/Medical course for London Underground Rescue and attended training with multiple agencies including the Fire Service. A dedicated professional volunteer Merv gains immense pride when in a position to help in any emergency situation at home or abroad.
